The first time we saw her, we were sure she had a congenital heart defect as she had very laboured breathing. <\/span><\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She had been born outside and we were in fact neutering\/spaying\/microchipping all the cats and returning them to\u00a0the lady who was providing for them. They weren\u2019t housecats so I was really concerned about \u2018Shade.\u2019 Thankfully, they agreed I could bring her home with me, and I would give her whatever natural life she may have. She had been seen by a Vet and they said she was unlikely to see Christmas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We took \u2018Shade\u2019 to our Vets and they also thought there were problems with her heart\u2026 not so! Our vet, Kerry, did a scan and her heart was working normally BUT there was \u2018something\u2019 behind the heart that shouldn\u2019t have been there!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"450\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/felinewelfareiow.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Kerry-Simon-Shade.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1145\" srcset=\"https:\/\/felinewelfareiow.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Kerry-Simon-Shade.jpg 450w, https:\/\/felinewelfareiow.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Kerry-Simon-Shade-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><figcaption>\u2018Shade\u2019 with her true heroes \u2013 Kerry McNie and Simon Baker at Pet Doctors, Newport, IOW.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Our dilemma was that it was far too risky for her to have an anaesthetic or sedation. This little girl had been seen several times by Kerry and Simon at Pet Doctors and on a recent visit, Simon was sure her kidneys were misplaced and in completely the wrong place.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">She had by this stage put on 0.5kg (she originally weighed 1.2kg) so had grown to about the size of a 14-week old kitten (even though she was coming up to 9 months!) Decision time\u2026 Simon explained that if they left her she would at some stage have a \u2018terminal crisis\u2019 and they would not be able to save her. So, after much heart-searching on <em>everyone\u2019s<\/em> part, <em>today was the day<\/em> to right what was wrong.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:post-content --><!-- wp:paragraph {\"textColor\":\"black\"} --><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">\u2018Shade\u2019 had a scan and an X-ray and coped with that really well. Simon then went on to operate\u2026<\/p>\n<p>This dear little girl did, as suspected, had a diaphragmatic hernia. But instead of one shining in the sky, she is here with us safe, sound, and very happy.
