2025 Newsletter
Well where do I start with an account of 2025 !!! It has been a very busy year and sadly more cases of neglect – abandonment and total disregard for animals of all types by their owners 🥲 No one HAS to own a pet – if you decide you no longer want to care for your pet then PLEASE call the Rescue Centres. There may not be available space immediately BUT ask to go on a waiting list and phone regularly for an update as to where you are on the list, if you have a deadline eg are moving and are unable to take your pet with you then let the Rescue Centres know.
We are asked regularly if we can scan a cat who is thought to be a stray or sadly those who have been killed on our roads 😿 We find 50% of the cats we scan are either not microchipped ( now a legal requirement ) or the details are not up to date so an owner is not contactable – not very helpful as you can imagine !
We took ‘Bo’ in for rehoming and found her a home with a lovely lady but just 6 weeks later Angie suffered a fatal cardiac arrest 🥲 She had no cardiac history at all. This was SO devastating for Angie’s family and friends and of course ‘Bo’ 😿🥲 I went over to bring ‘Bo’ back into our care and met Angie’s lovely family. Just a week or so later later Angie’s sister showed interest in adopting ‘Bo’ – she didnt think we would agree as they live on the mainland BUT it didn’t end there !!! We were sent a video of their home and Jane Cresdee did a drive past for me. The rest is history. I took ‘Bo’ over to her new home, and did a post at the time with her exploring her new home and she hasn’t looked back since. We still get updates and photos which is so lovely. So eventually ‘Bo’ had a happy ending and I know Angie would feel comfortable knowing her ‘Bo’ is with her family 🥰
‘Smudge’ came to us in February as one of the children was allergic to him. He had so many problems particularly with his teeth/mouth. He stayed with us as a permanent resident. He got on so well with all the others and used to come and go as he pleased via the cat flap during the day. We had ‘Smudge’ for many months and we battled to keep him comfortable, but sadly laterly it all became too much for him and nothing we did helped his mouth. He slowly went downhill which took any choices away from us and he was quietly laid to rest. He enjoyed those few months with us it was heart breaking that he didnt have alot longer 😿 He wasn’t a young boy, so that was against him as well. We together with Pete at The Peoples Vet did everything and more for this beautiful boy 😿🥲
I don’t know if you remember ‘Snickers’ our FIV boy. Again he had been neutered late in life when he was 8 years old – he was the 3rd one from the same area and needless to say they were all FIV positive 😿 We managed to find a lovely home with another AIDS cat for ‘Snickers’ and he hasn’t looked back since 💕 They are both indoor cats needless to say.
‘Maddie’ came to us having been left behind when her owner moved house 😈 Thankfully we were contacted and over we went to pick up this older girl and bring her into our care with warmth, love and comfort. ‘Maddie’ is SO happy in her new home with her new Mum and Dad – she will NEVER want for anything EVER again. Let’s hope her previous owner doesn’t aquire anymore pets – ‘easy come easy go.’
‘Penny’ came to us in an appalling condition, her skin was sore and she was heavily flea infested, she also was very stiff in her hind quarters – she isnt a youngster either – 13 years young in fact. This beautiful girl is now a permanent foster and although on regular treatment for her arthritis she is otherwise really fit xx Her skin and coat, needless to say, are now PURRFECT, such a relief after suffering for goodness knows how long 😿 Her microchip was not up to date so an owner not contactable.
We were called out where 3 kittens had been found behind someone’s shed – they were tiny ❤️ Although ‘Mum’ was unapproachable once I got them all here she just LOVED all the attention, obviously very relieved to find from here on she was going to be ADORED with all her needs met 100 fold. When her babies were old enough both ‘Heidi’ and one of her boys, ‘Shadow’ went to a SUPER new home together then a little later on ‘Heidi’s’ other 2 kittens, ‘Domino’ and ‘Oliver’, found an equally LOVELY home together – a very happy ending for this precious little family xx❤️ xx
We have had our fair share of feral cats and kittens. With one of the ‘situations’ – a prolific breeder – yet again adding to her numbers. We neutered/spayed/microchipped 11 cats/ kittens only returning one adult male, all the others have been rehomed. 3 went to a LOVELY stable home and have settled in SO well – still not approachable ( that may come in time) – but they will never want for anything with their new owner plus of course they are all spayed and microchipped. They have also befriended another cat in the area and he shares their meals at times !! Kate has a wildlife camera up so she has plenty of videos of these lovely girls and their new friend !!!
Another colony we did there were 17 cats and kittens – yes it took alot of time but every bit was worth it xx We managed to rehome 2 of the kittens to a farm but sadly we had no luck with the other 2 so they have been released back to the original farm where they were born and lived before we made the essential ‘alterations’ to their anatomy !! NO more kittens there now or in the future 😺
‘Pickles’ had been living outside on all weathers and didn’t appear to have a home. She was microchipped so we contacted her owners. They had actually rehomed her, hence why the area didnt fit with the details on her chip. Anyway they asked us to rehome her. She is now in a SUPER home and has settled SO well.
HOME AT LAST Little One xxx
‘Malia’ – 15 years young needed help when her ‘Mum’ went into Hospital and the Care Agency withdrew their ‘live in’ care due to the lady’s needs being too challenging to manage at home any longer 🥲 She is now in a Care Home with her husband, so together once again 💕 ‘Malia’ went straight into one of our permanent foster homes where she settled instantly xx She had been missing company at her home but now she has moved in with Marcie saying ‘this is fine thank you very much – I’m staying’ !!! She is in very good condition for her age, although has a slight skin condition which am sure will improve with regular flea treatment xx Another very satisfied customer !!!!
‘Polly’ another neglected 13 year old 😿🥲 WHAT is wrong with some people 😈 Why have them in the first place ???? Anyway she has had her little life turned round. She will not spend anymore time padding the streets wondering where she will sleep or where her next meal is coming from …. not from the owners but from kind people in the area. Now she is safe, warm, cosy and LOVED again as a permanent foster. She LOVES love and we intend making up for the neglect shown to her prior coming to us ❤️
I won’t harp on any of the other neglect cases – they have been difficult to bear – some came to us ‘too late’ so we were unable to ‘give them a life’ but even ‘Leo’ who was with us just 5 days knew nothing but love, warmth, attention, comfort during those last few days until he sadly collapsed and had to be laid to rest 💔
It is believed that FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis )was the cause of his condition. – he hid it well until that day 💔
‘Tootsie’ – 16.5 years young came to us when her Mum sadlyvpassed away 😿 THANKS to Tessa Bartlett I took ‘Tootsie’ over to her when I picked her up from her previous home. She is quite a little character to be sure. She was having problems with her mouth/teeth so off we went to see Pete at The Peoples Vet. She had full bloods done – she has the start of kidney degeneration and is hyperthyroid so she is having supportive treatment for her kidneys also is now on thyroid medication. You have to be crafty with that I can tell you !!!! Since she has had her dental she has transformed !! She could get quite ‘cross’ prior to extraction of 4 teeth & a tidy up, it must have been SO sore bless her little heart. She had no Veterinary history so we don’t know how long she had endured discomfort and pain. All better now which is the main thing ❤️
Still fresh in your minds I’m sure is ‘Rupert’ – our brave little warrior 🥰
He is recovering well from his front leg amputation and he took to having lost a limb SO, SO well, it was instant even when he was coming round from the anaesthetic. An AMAZING boy he truly is. We think he is under 3 years of age – he wasn’t neutered or microchipped, so he lost more than a leg when he was at The People’s Vet just 6 days ago. Early days for him on his recovery journey but hopefully we can find him a suitable home in a VERY safe area as the New Year gets closer and closer.
‘Fifi’ came to us with a very upset gut. It is taking a time to get completely on top of the problem but we are getting there !!!! She can’t tolerated commercial cat food – hopefully she will be able to in time.
She is such an affectionate little girl and so tolerant. This has been awful for her and we are unsure how long she had suffered with this prior coming to us 😿 All the tests we had done came back negative so we were all scratching our heads at that stage. 🙏🙏🙏 she is hopefully going to recover from this fully with all the support she is receiving, medically and dietary 🙏🙏
