‘Norman’s’ Story ……….
Norman is a 7kg black and white male cat. I first saw him several years ago walking through my garden, very thin and dirty, clearly a stray or not being cared for. He was terrified of people and would panic and gallop off if approached.
About 3 years ago, I began to leave food out for him which he wouldn’t move towards until the door was shut, then eventually he would eat with the door open, then if I was there watching. I got him a large dog kennel with warm beds inside and a cat flap and fed him in there every day and he always had access to shelter and biscuits, food and water. In winter I put warmers under his blankets and eventually he stayed in bed while I gave him food and scratched his head. In summer I left the door of the house open and he began to come in and sleep on a bed I got for him. Then he came in daily to sleep, and loves a stroke and a fuss, although the slightest noise or if you carry something past him and he panics and gallops out. In December I got him microchipped and neutered and he has settled down a lot. He used to go out for hours looking for females but now he is always in the house or garden or nearby.
He is low maintenance and just likes to loaf or sleep. He isn’t playing yet as he is still scared of toys.
Since December when he had his operation, he has become such a house cat, that he has become territorial. I have a tiny, old cat and he has started to jump out at her, indoors and outdoors, and she has moved into an upstairs bedroom and won’t come down. This isn’t fair on her and it’s making me miserable and the only person in the house who is happy is Norman, who is living his best life!
